Analytical Method Development

The analysis of rubber and plastic materials is a specialised activity.

In general, Pharmaceutical Companies tend to focus on the stability, safety and efficacy of their drug products and the discovery of new chemical entities. Consequently many do not have the specialist methods or sophisticated analytical equipment required for the development of analytical methods dedicated to rubbers and plastics.

Rapra Pharma has at its disposal state-of-the-art analytical equipment, including:

Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (GC-MS)
Conventional GC is used for a wide variety of applications including qualification of monomers, oligomers and volatile additives. GC-MS is a more powerful technique for identifying and quantifying volatile components in complex mixtures. Rapra has extensive experience in the identification of volatile/low molecular weight species produced from the processing of rubbers and plastics.

  • Agilent 6890 GC and 6890/5973 GC-MS
  • Perkin-Elmer 8500 series GC
  • Perkin-Elmer HS-40 Static Headspace
  • Chromopak 4010 dynamic headspace/purge and trap unit
  • Perkin-Elmer Turbo Mass GC-MS with Perkin-Elmer ATD 400 thermal desorption unit.
  • Leco Pegasus III GC x GC-ToF

Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy (LC-MS)
Liquid Chromatography is complimentary to Gas Chromatography and is used to quantify non-volatile or very polar additives and contaminates. Rapra’s new LC-MS trap instrument also improves the technique’s ability to identify unknown components by increasing the amount of fragmentation data available for identification.

  • Agilent 1100 series LC/MSD
  • Agilent 1100 series LC/MSD Trap

Additional techniques

  • FTIR
  • Micro FTIR
  • LC Transform
  • GPC
  • DSC
  • TGA
